Fast track to net zero
British Transport Police is the national police force for the rail network across England, Scotland and Wales, responsible for keeping passengers, staff and infrastructure safe.
The brief
We were briefed to produce a film that captured the story of the force’s electric vehicle testing programme, part of its wider commitment to tackling climate change and transitioning to electric vehicles in line with its Net Zero Carbon strategy.
The work marked a significant milestone, with British Transport Police moving towards electrification two years ahead of the government target.
The challenge was to communicate technical testing in a way that felt purposeful and human, rather than procedural or abstract.
Our approach
With a tight two‑week production window, we proposed a self‑authored, observational approach that allowed the team leading the testing to tell the story in their own words.
Filming took place on location during intensive track tests at the Millbrook Vehicle Proving Ground. We combined trackside and in‑vehicle filming using a mix of broadcast and action cameras, supported by aerial drone footage, to give a clear sense of the scale, rigour and real‑world conditions of the testing process.
Throughout, our focus was on clarity and credibility, ensuring the film reflected the seriousness of the work while remaining accessible to a broad audience.
The outcome
The finished film provided British Transport Police with a clear, engaging way to demonstrate its progress towards a lower‑carbon fleet and its commitment to sustainability.
By grounding the story in the voices of the people involved, the film helped bring a complex technical process to life and reinforced the organisation’s role as a forward‑thinking public sector body, taking practical steps towards Net Zero Carbon goals.
The campaign’s impact was recognised by the industry, earning a nomination at the Royal Television Society Southern Awards 2023 — validating the strength of the creative approach and the effectiveness of authentic, insight‑led storytelling.
